Brayan's Travel Guide
Sucre, Bolivia

Sucre

Bolivia’s white colonial jewel

Best time: April–October (mild, dry)Bolivia

Overview

The constitutional capital is a UNESCO-listed city of whitewashed colonial mansions and red-tiled roofs, lower and warmer than La Paz. With cheap Spanish schools, great cafés and a relaxed student vibe, it’s where backpackers stop for a week to learn the language — and the closest place to see real dinosaur footprints.

Top things to do

Plaza 25 de Mayo

A palm-shaded square ringed by gleaming white colonial buildings and the Casa de la Libertad, where Bolivia declared independence.

La Recoleta viewpoint

A monastery terrace and café above town with the best view over the white rooftops.

Parque Cretácico

A cliff face preserving over 5,000 dinosaur footprints on the edge of the city.

Sucre is the cheapest, clearest place in the Americas to take a week of one-to-one Spanish lessons.
